The credits you earn are the same as those earned at any secondary school in Ontario.  Every Independent Learning Course meets the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education and counts toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Your success with independent study depends on your motivation and persistence.  You will have to rely on your own work habits and eagerness to learn.  You are allowed to complete one course at a time. Registration takes place from September to mid-March.  Course work and final exam must be submitted by the end of May regardless of when it started.

WHAT IS INDEPENDENT STUDY?

Independent Study is a method of delivering educational information via booklets instead of a physical classroom.

WHAT IS ON-LINE LEARNING?
On-line learning is a method of delivering educational information via the internet instead of a physical classroom.  Courses are presented by qualified secondary school teachers.  All assignments must be Microsoft Friendly (PDF or Rich-Text (RTF) format is probably best).

STUDENTS REGISTERING FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSES SHOULD NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
  • Students must provide an updated transcript or credit summary as well as a letter from their Guidance Department to indicate their enrollment status at the time of registration.
  • Students must complete the course within the school year - September to May.
  • Appointments for exams are arranged with the counsellor, you must pass the final exam with a minimum mark of 50% in order to receive the credit.
